Adding More Spring Chicks

In early January, we sourced 110 eggs from the Rainbow Flock and the Trailer Chicks and fired up 5 incubators to hatch our own spring chicks!

After 21 days, our eggs began to hatch!

We successfully hatched 79 total, and for the first time I had to help a few chicks out of their eggs. We lost 3 chicks within the first week, and are hanging on at 76.

These chicks are barnyard mixes from our two larger flocks, and they will join the Trailer Chicks once they are big enough to go outside with the flock!

We do not know if the chicks are hens or roosters, but of course we are hoping for them to mostly be hens! The chicks are now a week old, and we will be able to tell whether they are males or females at around 10-12 weeks.

The journey of incubating our own eggs is always fascinating and it truly never gets old. If you want to follow along with our journey, be sure to follow us on Facebook or Instagram!
